What are Omega 3 6 and 9 Fatty Acids?

When it comes to fats omega-3omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids are all essential. They each offer unique health benefits, but it’s important to find balance when consuming these fats. Here is a quick overview of what each of the fats offer.
Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats. The main ones known to be beneficial are EPADHA, and ALA. EPA and DHA are the main omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements while ALA is found in various seeds and nuts.
Omega-3 has been known for providing many health benefits. The list includes reducing bad cholesterol, lowering blood triglycerides, and having strong anti-inflammatory properties. It also contributes to brain development in infants, has positive effects on various mental health problems, and is good for your skin.
Omega-6 fatty acids are also polyunsaturated fats as well. They come in the form of arachidonic and linoleic acids. Omega-6 fatty acids offer the same benefits as omega-3 fatty acids. They can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol while increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. However, consuming too much omega-6 fatty acids in your diet can lead to inflammation.
Omega-9 fatty acids are monounsaturated fats. Omega-9 fatty acids can also help lower bad cholesterol and overall cholesterol levels. Like the other omega fatty acids, it has anti-inflammatory properties. The difference between omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 is that omega-3 is not formed in your body. You have to get it from outside foods and supplements.

It’s also to find a good balance between omega-3s and omega-6s. The ideal balance is a one to one ratio but a two to one ratio is fine as well.
