How much Borage Oil should you take Daily?

Borage oil is an oil that comes from a plant called borago officinalis. What makes it a sought-after supplement is its high gamma linoleic acid (GLA) content. This is a fatty acid that is thought to have many health benefits.

GLA is known to be an anti-inflammatory. It can help with arthritis, diabetes, and women going through PMS.  For arthritis, it’s been shown to reduce the symptoms of arthritis when combined with fish oil. While it may not always replace the need for NSAIDS for all patients, the amount of NSAIDS taken can be reduced with the help of GLA.

In addition, it has been shown to be helpful for skin conditions. It can help with acneeczema, and rosacea. While it can be helpful if taken orally in capsules, it is best used as a topical product if you’re using it to treat skin conditions.

Despite its purported health benefits, it is an omega-6 fatty acid. Most people have been taught that our diets contain too many omega-6 fatty acids. But since the source of this is plant-based, it is still healthy as long as it is consumed in balanced amounts.

The main ingredient, GLA, can be found in other foods such as milk, evening primrose oil, and black currant. However, borage oil is often the go-to supplement as it has the highest amount of GLA content.

Borage oil is well tolerated by most people. But some people may experience an allergic reaction such as hives, swelling, and a rash. You should discontinue use if you experience these reactions.
