NSF Sport Certification
Given the fast pace at which many dietary supplements, functional foods and cosmetics/personal care enter the marketplace and reports that suggest that some of these products do not actually contain the ingredients or quantities shown on the label, or are found to be adulterated in other ways, consumers have cause to be concerned. With such a confusing array of information out there, it can be difficult to determine which manufacturers’ products are credible.
That’s why NSF led the development of the first truly independent testing standard and product certification program strictly for dietary supplements, NSF/ANSI 173 and NSF 229 for functional foods. NSF’s commitment to safety extends to personal care by testing and evaluating products to the NSF Certification Guideline 527 for Personal Care Products.
There are numerous quality components of the Certified for Sport® certification program, which verifies that:
- Products do not contain any of 290 substances banned by major athletic organizations
- The contents of the supplement actually match what is printed on the label
- There are no unsafe levels of contaminants in the tested products
- The product is manufactured at a facility that is GMP Certified and audited annually or bi-annually based on grade for quality and safety by NSF
NSF International’s Certified for Sport® program meets the growing demands of athletes, coaches and all those concerned about banned substances in dietary supplements, functional foods, and cosmetics/ personal care products. We verify that these products do not contain unsafe levels of contaminants, prohibited substances or masking agents, and that what is on the label matches what is in the product. By doing so, the Certified for Sport® certification program provides consumers with safer choices when selecting dietary supplements, functional foods, and cosmetics/ personal care products.
